Challenge

A private equity and M&A advisory firm partnered with Anderson Strategy Group to develop a comprehensive investment strategy. The study focused on improving the quality of the firm’s business development pursuits.

Approach

We started by conducting over 70+ interviews across private equity, M&A advisory, venture capital, and investment management to understand the current landscape and sourcing of third-party consulting services, particularly in private equity. This highlighted what aspects of the sourcing process were most critical for the success of industry players.

We then used internal client information and market databases to develop a methodology for prioritizing potential business development opportunities. This information was used to create targeted fund “hit lists”, improving the quality of the client’s future pursuits.

Lastly, we analyzed the firm’s growth capacity. By evaluating executive time use against best practices, introducing staffing model metrics to guide hiring, and customizing a motivation matrix guide, we recommended a framework for thinking about operational tactics and employee lifecycle management.
